Margaret English was born in Vancouver, BC, on March 15, 1964. Her father, Clinton English, a lineman for B.C. Hydro, was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Clinton is currently a resident of Buchanan Lodge). Her mother, Lillian Reid-Smith, also born in Vancouver, BC, worked as a homemaker and later as an office worker. Margaret was the youngest of six children, with three older sisters, Karen, Brenda and Louise, and twin brothers, Clayton and Colin.

Margaret completed her high school education, then went on to Hairdressing School. Margaret worked as a hairdresser in various salons, taught hairdressing for years (including a very progressive school in Gastown), and then operated her own salon within her home until her retirement in 2016.

She was known as chatty and humourous, with an infectious laugh, and endeared herself to her friends & family.

quick facts about me

Her spouse, Greg Nutbrown, works as a welder. They had two daughters, Brittany and Carly. Margaret loved her children and being a Mom. She enjoyed going on holidays with her family, especially to Mexico and Hawaii.

Margaret was actively involved with Girl Guides and her children's Preschool. Her hairdressing business led many friends into her life and she loved socializing with them. She was known as chatty and humourous, with an infectious laugh, and endeared herself to her friends and family. She remained especially close to all of her sisters.

She loved to dine out and or just go out for coffee. She enjoyed watching TV, movies, listening to music of many kinds and dancing. She especially enjoyed going to the theatre in Maple Ridge with her friends. She also loved swimming, going for walks and, of course, drinking coffee. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Halloween, and used to decorate her entire house (and her room at Buchanan!).

quick facts about me

While Margaret did not have a religious background, she found a real connection with the chaplains here at Buchanan and regularly participated in our spiritual health programs. She also loved to join in with the many recreation events and activities, especially anything featuring music. She was well supported with many visits from her family while she was here. Margaret passed away on July 14, 2022 and we all share in her loss She was much loved by the staff and residents of Buchanan!

Margaret English was such a bright light here at Buchanan in her almost 4 year stay with us. Her family visited often & were such a blessing to Margaret and all of out staff, as well as the other residents. Her husband, Greg, was such an important part of our community and felt grateful for the care his wife received here.

AS PART OF HER LEGACY, GREG DONATED $10,000 FROM MARGARET'S ESTATE TO ENHANCE DEMENTIA CARE HERE AT BUCHANAN LODGE.
